Clinical Hypnosis is not a ‘magic’ cure; it's a tool that can be applied to a lot of challenges and goals. Sometimes it can help you get what you want all by itself. Other times, it works alongside other forms of help or therapy. It can help you achieve your goals faster and easier in most cases.
The hypnotic state of ‘trance’ is a naturally occurring state, such as the feeling of being absorbed in a good film, book or piece of music. With some guidance and practice, you can access the state of hypnosis to make long lasting desired change(s) at the subconscious level of mind.
Clinical Hypnosis at Metta Therapy provides the necessary therapeutic conditions for you, the client, to enter the safe and natural state of hypnotic trance, helping you access your own subconscious mind.
With access to your subconscious mind, beneficial changes you wish to make in your life can be more easily introduced and accepted, leading to lasting beneficial change(s).
The experience of Clinical Hypnosis varies from person to person. Generally, it is a relaxing and enjoyable experience where beneficial suggestions are made as you are guided to the area of your subconscious that you wish to focus on.
Clinical Hypnosis is extremely effective at helping clients ‘unlearn’ and re-work old limiting beliefs, reconditioning the subconscious mind with the beliefs and behaviours you wish to experience in your life.
Stress, Anxiety, Depression, Relationship Issues, Unwanted Behaviours/Habits, Fears and Phobias etc can all be addressed through Clinical Hypnosis. As you can imagine, the list of specific issues which can be addressed would be extremely long!
Everyone’s fears, phobias and personal insecurities are unique to them. For some it is a difficulty with feeling loved and accepted or a general lack of confidence. For others it is a fear of being seen as a failure or speaking in public; or it may be a phobia of spiders; or a desire to stop smoking; and/or to reduce or stop drinking alcohol so much.
Whatever the issue you may be considering addressing with Clinical Hypnosis, the reality is all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. You, the client, must give permission for the suggestions made to take effect at the subconscious level of the mind. You the client are always in control.
All sessions are recorded, and it is advised you listen back to your session(s), to review and re-enter the hypnotic state in your own time, where changes in the subconscious can be further embedded.
Clinical Hypnosis sessions at Metta Therapy are designed to guide you into a safe and relaxed state of mind where beneficial suggestions can be made and more readily accepted and absorbed by your subconscious mind.

Absolutely! When carried out by a suitably qualified and experienced professional, Clinical Hypnosis is an entirely safe and natural therapeutic approach.
Some people worry they will lose control or be vulnerable and under some kind of spell or mind control. As discussed before, this fear-based concern is probably due to the unhelpful use of hypnosis by stage performers who use the naturally occurring state of hypnotic trance for entertainment purposes, rather than for improving lives.
You cannot be controlled or get ‘stuck’ in a hypnotic trance. You cannot be made to go into a hypnotic trance state against your wishes if you do not want to. Some people pride themselves on having a strong mind and when talking about hypnosis will say: ‘You will never be able to hypnotise me, my mind is too strong!’ And they will be right! Not because their mind is strong but because you cannot ‘make’ anyone go into hypnosis without their consent.
There are a few myths and stereotypes about hypnosis which generally come from an outdated perception involving swinging pocket watches and stage hypnotists appearing to make people dance with brooms or cluck like chickens. Hypnosis can and certainly has been used to entertain people through audience participation shows over the years.
At Metta Therapy, however, we believe this is not the best use of hypnosis and is a somewhat ethically dubious practice. Clinical Hypnosis can be used safely and effectively for therapeutic purposes, rather than for ‘entertainment’ purposes.
We take great care to work collaboratively and compassionately with you the client to safely and effectively help you make deeply desired changes in your life.
Some people are very receptive to the natural state of hypnosis. A small percentage have difficulty and cannot enter a therapeutic state, often due to a high level of cognitive impairment. Most people however can enter a light to mild state of hypnosis which is all that is required to derive therapeutic benefit.
If you can answer yes to the following 3 questions, you are highly likely to be receptive to hypnosis and will be able to experience hypnosis:
The number of sessions which will be required for to reach your therapeutic goal(s), varies from person to person. Everyone responds differently to hypnosis.
As a general indication most people start to see results within 2 to 6 sessions.
