Integrative Therapy

There is more than one path to the top of the mountain. Everyone’s path in life is unique and individual to them. Along the way, you may have had some difficult, challenging and painful and/or traumatic experiences.

When such experiences feel too difficult to accept, process and integrate at the time they occur, unpleasant, unhelpful beliefs and behaviours can develop into mental and emotional constructs which then become ‘Default Defence Mechanism(s)’. Although Defence Mechanisms are intended to keep us feeling safe, they can unintentionally show up in life as: Stress, Anxiety, Depression, Relationship Issues, Fears and Phobias, Mental and Emotional Blocks, Low Self Esteem, Lack of Confidence, Addictions, Poor Sleeping and Eating Habits, a Lack of Meaning and Purpose in Life – and a whole host of other issues people may seek out ‘Therapy’ for.

There are many different types of recognised and accredited ‘Therapeutic’ approaches available today to help with such issues. It can be difficult to know what approach will work best for you, especially if you do not have a therapeutic background. See Link to the various types of therapy available today.

Research has however consistently evidenced it is not so much the therapeutic approach or modality i.e. the name of a type of therapy, which indicates successful outcomes for clients ‘In Therapy’. Rather, it is the clients experience of their relationship with the therapist, known as ‘The Therapeutic Relationship’ which most strongly influences the outcomes of therapy. See link to article

One simple and effective way to determine what type of therapy and more importantly what therapist is likely to work best for you, is to contact them and have an initial discussion. This will help you get a sense of who they are and how they might work with you. This is also an excellent opportunity for you to notice your ‘gut feeling’ to determine if you feel comfortable enough to work with them.

You should be comfortable enough to ask any questions you may have. This is also a good opportunity to enquire about their training, qualifications, accreditation and experience of working with the issues you may want to work through and process.

You can arrange a Free No Obligation Consultation at Metta Therapy to discuss if Integrative Therapy is a suitable approach to support you to meet your therapeutic goals at this time.

Every client is unique and individual. The number of sessions required depends on the depth and complexity of the presenting issue(s) which varies from person to person. An indication of how many sessions will likely be required will be given during the Initial Consultation.

Research has found traditional talking therapies of counselling and psychotherapy is most effective when clients access weekly therapy sessions over a period of anywhere between 3 to 14 weeks. See Link to Article.

At Metta Therapy, we have found clients who choose to include Clinical Hypnosis within Integrative Therapy sessions experience significant changes over a shorter period, usually 3 to 6 sessions. See Clinical Hypnosis for more information.

All therapeutic work with clients is subject to regular review to ensure progress towards therapeutic goals is being made.

Shorter term work is effective when clients are clear about the issue(s) they wish to focus on. It is helpful for short term work if the client has already integrated some tools and practices into their day-to-day life which help them to regulate thoughts and emotions.

Some clients prefer to have open ended sessions, to allow for longer term work. Without session limitation and within a safe space, clients can delve as deeply as they want to into underlying issues, at a pace they are comfortable with.

Both short-term (1 to 4 sessions) and medium-term work (4 to 14 sessions) and longer term, open ended Integrative Therapy sessions are available at Metta Therapy.

Integrative therapy has been found to be useful for issues such as:

Stress, Anxiety, Depression, Grief and Loss, Relationship issues, Work-based issues, Self-Esteem, Self-Worth, Recovery from Trauma, Recovery from Substance Misuse, Overcoming Limiting Beliefs and Negative Thinking, Understanding and Managing Anger, Emotional Regulation etc. etc.

The list above is not exhaustive. If you are experiencing an issue which is, or is not, listed, you can contact Metta Therapy to Book a Free Consultation.

Together we can discuss and discern if Integrative Therapy will be an effective approach for you.

Please note, for various therapeutic and ethical reasons we cannot work with everyone who seeks Metta Therapy services. In such circumstances, appropriate onward referrals to other qualified and accredited professionals will be offered.

You may be considering Therapy because of mental and emotional and/or relationship difficulties and challenges you are experiencing in life. We are all human beings. We all experience difficulties and challenges at times throughout life. Seeking support to help you address challenges and difficulties is a sign of strength and intelligence, not weakness.

Question: If you were in jungle and you realised you had become a bit lost, would you keep going until you were totally exhausted and even more lost? Or, if you could, would you prefer to work with an experienced guide to help you navigate your way through the jungle?

We all benefit at times from some support to help us navigate the psychological and emotional landscape of our lives. Determining what type of therapy is likely to work well for you can appear daunting, due to the sheer number of different approaches available.

With Integrative Therapy, a wide range of established therapeutic orientations are drawn from to provide a comprehensive and highly bespoke approach to meet the individual needs and circumstances of you, the client. See Link to Article on Integrative Therapy for further information.

The principles of Humanistic, Psychodynamic, Psychoanalytic, Cognitive Behavioural, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis and Transpersonal approaches are all available within Integrative Therapy sessions at Metta Therapy.

Mindfulness, Trauma Informed, Somatic and Compassion based approaches may also be utilised to support you to reach your therapeutic goals, if such approaches work for you.

Established and emerging evidence from the fields of Neuroscience, such as Neuro- Plasticity and Epigenetics can also be brought into sessions to help inform and support you with your therapeutic aims and goals. Solution Focused Clinical Hypnosis can also be integrated into Integrative Therapy sessions At No Additional Cost.

Clinical Hypnosis can work quickly and at depth to effectively change unhelpful beliefs and/or behavioural responses stored in the subconscious mind. Clinical Hypnosis is not a ‘magic’ cure. The hypnotic state of ‘trance’ is a naturally occurring state, such as the feeling of being absorbed in a good film, book or piece of music.

With some guidance and practice, the trance state can be accessed by clients to make long lasting desired change(s) at the subconscious level of mind. See Clinical Hypnosis for more information.

As can be seen from above, Integrative Therapy provides access to a wide range of established approaches, all designed to meet your unique and individual therapeutic needs.

The main strength of Integrative Therapy is the inherent flexibility of the approach. As the client, you are provided with a coherent, comprehensive and highly individualised approach to Therapy, tailored specifically to support you to meet your therapeutic goals.
